STUMP GRINDING

Frequently Asked Questions

What size stumps can you grind?

We’re equipped to handle stumps of just about any size, whether it’s a narrow space that calls for compact equipment or a massive tree base that needs a heavy-duty grinder. No matter the stump’s width or wood density, we’ve got the right tools to get the job done. We will give you a quote on how long the project will take once we know the size.

Will stump grinding damage my yard?

Not at all. Our process is designed to be low-impact on your lawn and landscape, even our heavy-duty stump grinder will not tear up your yard. We carefully maneuver all of our equipment to avoid surrounding features and clean up after ourselves so your yard is left neat and even better than before.

What happens to the stump debris after grinding?

Once the stump is ground down, you’re left with a pile of wood chips. These can stay to naturally fill the hole or be repurposed as mulch. If you’d rather not keep them, we can haul the debris away for you.

Do I need to do any preparation before stump grinding?

Before stump grinding, please remove any lawn decorations, toys, or large rocks around the site to prevent damage to our equipment. If there is debris that you cannot easily move, our team will assist with this when we arrive to the site.

How deep do you grind a stump?

We typically grind stumps down to 6 to 12 inches below the ground level.

This depth is prevents the tree from regrowing and allows for new grass or other vegetation to be planted. Deeper grinding can be done if needed for replanting trees or landscaping projects.

Can you grind away the roots as well?

Surface roots within reach of our machine will be removed during our first visit and can be safely done without disrupting the rest of your yard.

Grinding deeper roots can be done, but poses a threat to your lawn as the roots can spread very far. If you are looking for root grinding because you are planning a landscaping project, we can absolutely do that.

Are you able to stump grind during or immediately after rainfall?

Our stump grinding services can be performed immediately after rainfall and even in light rain. However, if your property is muddy as a result of heavy rainfall we may reschedule to ensure our machines do not tear up your yard.

How long does stump grinding usually take?

An average job can take anywhere from 30 minutes to 2 hours.

The duration of the job will depend on the size of the stump, density of the wood, and access to the site. A 3×3 foot stump with open access will take 1 hour of grinding to get it 12 inches below the surface.

Additional time will be taken to refill the stump hole and haul away the leftover wood chips.
